Want to take your family through the entire Bible in a shortperiod of time, but uncertain as to how to approach such a monumental undertaking? Author Christin Ditchfield has provided families with a one-volume guide through the entire Bible with the new release from Crossway A Family Guide to the Bible
Crossway’s website offers a succinct summary of the newbook:
A Family Guide to the Bible takes readers on a fun and exciting tour through all sixty-six books of the Bible and offers parents, grand parents, and teachers a better understanding of the Scriptures so they can help the children in their lives know what is in the Bible, where to find it, and how it all fits together. As Christians become more familiar with God’s Word, they will gain greater confidence as they share what they believe with their family and friends, help answer questions concerning the Bible, and encourage others to grow deeper in their walks of faith.
A Family Guide begins with a brief history of the Bible and then articulates the authority of God’s Word, arguing that God has preserved it, even in translation into hundreds of languages, with total accuracy so that it is a trustworthy and inerrant guide. The book examines each of the Bible’s 66 books individually, briefly setting forth the author, audience and setting, along with a summary of the main storyline and message of each book. The author concludes each book with a key verse and then defines key words before concluding with “Did you know?” and application section. The author labors to show how the individual books are interconnected and find their fulfillment ultimately in God’s redeeming plan in Christ.
The 300-page work concludes with several helpful appendices, including how to study the Bible, “Where, in the Scriptures you’ll find…”, and verses that help a believer to celebrate special occasions such as Christmas and Easter. It closes with a brief section on personal evangelism and a final section that includes a number of maps of Bible lands. All in all, it is an excellent package for families to use as a teaching tool for children or as a resource to be employed in family worship.
Ditchfield is the author of more than 50 books, including three in the same series as this new work: A Family Guide to Narnia, A Family Guide to the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and a Family Guide to Prince Caspian.
