Legislation May Force California School Children to Celebrate Homosexuality

Many Christians in California had never heard of Harvey Milk until this past summer. The General Assembly in the Golden State made Mr. Milk's name known across the state when it passed AB 2567, a bill that sets aside May 22 as "Harvey Milk Day." The upshot? If Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signs the bill into law, students in California public schools will be ordered to observe, on May 22, a day for celebration of the gay and lesbian lifestyle choice.
Milk (1930-1978) was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California. He was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977 before he was murdered by fellow supervisor Dan White in 1978.
AB 2567 will require all California schools to "conduct suitable commemorative exercises" in honor of Milk, who was a radical homosexual activist during the final years of his life. According to the bill the required "exercises" will include: "remembering the life of Harvey Milk and recognizing his accomplishments as well as the contributions he made to this state."
This development comes one year after the legislature banned all negative messages about homosexuality in public schools across California through the passage of four laws that promote homosexual, bisexual and transsexual indoctrination of schoolchildren through prescribed textbooks and activities. Those laws prescribe "harassment training" for offenders who express a belief that there are only two genders — male and female — or who use such language as "mom" and "dad" to describe a typical family. The law effectively bans the use of traditional language such as "mom" and "dad" as discriminatory. Harvey Milk Day, should Schwarzenegger approve it, will now force schools to positively and intentionally celebrate the homosexual lifestyle.
As we wrote in response to the proposed bills last year, let us once again pray for believers in California and their efforts at opposing this wicked agenda. God's Word stipulates that his people must obey His commands when they conflict with the laws of man. Pray they will stand steadfast while exhibiting the aroma of life commensurate with the Gospel.
