Dr. Denny Burk serves as the editor for the Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood and has led a change in format for this important publication. Designed to serve pastors, church leaders and scholars, JBMW now includes shorter essays and perspectives designed to keep readers informed of new developments in the gender debate. In addition, the extended articles are now reviewed by academic referees, consistent with the best practices of other prestigious scholarly journals.
Dr. Burk has the heart of a pastor, the incisive mind of a scholar, a deep love for the Savior and a strong commitment to biblical manhood and womanhood. He will continue as editor of JBMW, even as CBMW Council member R. Albert Mohler Jr. on Monday announced his appointment as dean of Boyce College.
Mohler said. “I am really excited about the coming of Denny Burk as the new dean of the college. He is a great young leader, a promising scholar, a tested teacher, and a man of great vision and conviction. He has a solid track record at Criswell College and left his mark during his doctoral studies at Southern Seminary."
Burk received his Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2004 and has served as associate professor of New Testament at Criswell College since late 2004. Burke also holds a master of theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and a bachelor of arts from Louisiana Tech University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Burk has contributed numerous articles and book reviews to scholarly journals and also writes a popular blog daily on theology, politics and culture. He is the author of “Articular Infinitives in the Greek of the New Testament: On the Exegetical Benefit of Grammatical Precision” (Sheffield Phoenix), and he also serves as editor of the Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood published by CBMW.
“I couldn’t be happier about the prospect of moving back to Louisville to lead Boyce College,” Burk said. “I aim for Boyce College to become known as the premier training center for ministers who want to know the word of God and to make it known.”
“Pastoral ministry, student ministry, missions, evangelism, and every other kind of ministry should be rooted in and built upon the Scriptures, and I want Boyce College to be the leader in this kind of ministry preparation.”
David Kotter, Executive Director of CBMW, said, “On behalf of the entire team, I want congratulate Denny on this significant academic appointment and express our gratitude to God for his contribution to the ministry of CBMW as editor of the Journal. We are looking forward to ongoing fruitful labor with you in the future to proclaim the goodness of God’s design of manhood and womanhood.”
Burk and his wife Susan have been married for eight years. They have two daughters, Emily, 2, and Abby, three months.
