At CBMW we often partner with local churches that share a vision to proclaim
God’s glorious design of manhood and womanhood. One of our recent partnerships is with Denton Bible Church outside of Dallas, Texas, which hosted a CBMW conference last month. If you would be interested in sponsoring a conference on gender at your church, please contact our

Pastor Tommy Nelson and the elders at DBC wanted to provide an opportunity for their congregation, local pastors and other area ministry leaders to learn about the critical importance standing firm on gender issues for the health of the Church. The conference included three main speakers, an evening Question and Answer session for ministry leaders, and distribution of thousands of free books, including John Piper’s What’s the Difference? and Wayne Grudem’s 50 Crucial Questions about Manhood and Womanhood.
In the opening sermon, Denton Bible Church pastor Tommy Nelson argued that the ordination of women is pushing evangelical churches toward liberalism. He referenced Wayne Grudem’s book Evangelical Feminism: A New Path to Liberalism? and called capitulation on the issue of women’s ordination a serious threat to the health of local churches. “That, my friend, isn't just jousting among intellectuals and that's not jousting among fundamentalists," he said. "That's melanoma. That is cancer.”
In the second of three sermons, Bruce Ware, professor of Christian theology at Southern Seminary, demonstrated that male headship is a part of God’s good design in the original created order. Ware explained how Genesis 1-3 teaches that male headship is part of God’s pre-fall created order. He gave 10 reasons why we should affirm that God built headship into the original created order. Denny Burk, editor of the Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, summarizes Ware’s 10 reasons here.
Russell D. Moore, dean of the School of Theology at Southern Seminary, gave the final address and preached from Eph. 5:22-32, arguing that God intended for the home to give the world a clear picture of the Gospel. Moore argued that the passage is meant not just for husbands and wives, but for all men and women. In his exhortation to husbands and wives, Paul is giving instructions on what it means to be male and female, he said. Moore asserted that Paul does not use Christ’s work on the cross to illustrate what marriage is supposed to be like. Paul says that God gave us marriage to illustrate what the gospel is all about—Christ’s love for his bride.
